Red-dye nightmare spilled all-over highway

Looks like someone had a huge mess to clean up earlier this week on interstate 495 in Massachusetts when a tractor trailer loaded with containers of red dye used to color bark mulch ruptured and spilled covering 1500 feet of roadway. Something like this, although hellish, would definitely make your morning commute interesting. That is, until you get to work and see that your car is covered in red mulch dye. The coloring adhered to bumpers, tires, fenders and doors. Needless to say, people were pissed but apparently the mulch dye company is offering a phone number for insurance claims. If you’re lucky, they’ll reimburse you for a lousy carwash. Via: Lowellsun

Believe it or not, someone walked away from this with minor abrasions!

When they say, “buckle up” they mean it and here is a huge example why. Earlier this week a man wearing his safety belt walked away with minor abrasions from the flattened vehicle that hit a stationary tractor trailer. The other two women in the car that weren’t wearing seatbelts are in critical condition. Needless to say, the car was totally demolished and it’s hard to imagine anyone walking away in one piece from such a crash. Especially involving a 25,000 lb trailer. Via: Local6

Sexy Russian outfit for the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX...

Enough with the whining on Subaru’s 2008 Impreza WRX looks; it’s time to put forward some drastic solutions. Obviously, tuners are going to have a party with the new Impreza but it’ll probably take a few months before we see any results, so until then we’ll recommend a cheap but undoubtedly sexy outfit adopted by a rather adventurous Russian comrade for his current generation Impreza WRX. April Fool’s Day Aftermath...

April Fool’s day is one of the most light-hearted and cheerful days of the year. Carscoop of course couldn’t be absent from all the hoaxes we saw on the net yesterday so we decided to play along with Autoweek’s VW CrossPhatheon (which we took the liberty of equipping it with the non-existing 220Hp twin-turbo 2.0TDI), and with Seat UK’s prank remote controlled Leon Touring Car. We also created a hoax of our own which was a tad more serious –or at least we think it was, concerning the upcoming BMW X6 Concept. Using a few sketches of the current X5 and with a little help from photoshop we gave birth to BMW’s "surprise NY Show debut", the X6 Concept. Hope we fooled you!

30-year-old charged for threatening Detroit auto-execs!

Things have been heating up with recent debates and talks about auto manufacturers in Detroit lately. Therefore, I guess you could say that we weren’t completely surprised with Patrick William Hufford Jr that was arraigned today on charges after he called into a local newspaper and threatened to kill the chief executives of the U.S. automakers if the situation between the auto industry and unions did not improve by April 1.

Ok buddy, we understand your anger, but was it really worth the possible misdemeanor charges, 6 months in prison and a $1,000 bail? We think not! Whatever happened to good old fashioned pot banging and picketing in front of the Capitol Building and White House? And even though we agree with what one comment stated on the Detroit Free Press website that, “This guys got b**** as big as his man boobs”, he looks pretty harmless to us. Via: Freep

Hyundai Sonata clocked speeding at 147 mph - 237 km/h!

A Hyundai Sonata V6 that goes 147 mph -237 km/h? Well, that’s the story of a 2006 Sonata V-6 rental car in Arizona that was clocked by cameras going 83 mph over the speed-limit. The driver, Lawrence Pargo , admitted to accusation. He was charged with four counts of excessive speeding, reckless driving, and endangerment.

A curious Arizona newspaper questioned a Hyundai’s ability to reach speeds that high. They contacted some guys over at Car and Driver to further research the plausibility. After failing to locate the original rental Sonata, Car and Driver took a long term Sonata V-6 for a spin around the track and to their surprise did reach a top speed of 144 mph! To the drivers delight, the ordeal plead out of court spending a week in the big house and receiving a kick in the butt from his insurance company (at least we conclude). A speed camera system may be annoying but research shows it slows down speed demons considerably. On the other hand, we certainly don’t live in a certain George Orwell novel either. Via: Car & Driver

Mazda RX-7 driver "parks" his car on a tree...

Forget about oversteer and understeer, that’s passé; the new trend setting driving style is upper…steer! This fella from Kent, Washington took upper…steer all the way up to a tree down in Woodland Way. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the 3rd-gen Mazda RX-7 was speeding in excess of 70 mph – 112 km/h when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve stopping on, or rather up, a tree. Luckily, the driver suffered only minor injuries. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see more pics
