Vath Tunes Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate to 580HP

When the standard Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate (that's the W211) ain't doing it the trick for you, that's where tuning companies like Vath step in. The German firm has unveiled a new tuning package for the uber-sports wagon that increases power and gives the soon-to-be replaced E63 AMG Estate a more aggressive look.

Engine tweaks under the hood pump the 6.3-liter V8's output from 514 horsepower and 630Nm to 580 horsepower and 770Nm or 568 lb-ft while the removal of the electronic speed limiter allows the sporty Estate to hover over 300km/h or 187mph.

A high-performance brake system with 6-piston calipers, lowered air suspension by 35mm and new 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 245 rubber in the front and 285 at the back complete the list of mechanical mods.

Vath also developed a new carbon fiber front lip spoiler that promises to add about 9kg or 20 pounds of pressure on the front axle along with a specific rear diffuser at the back.

For the E63 AMG Estate's interior, the German tuning specialist offers a variety of carbon fiber accessories and Alcantara trim for the roof.

Binz Xtend E-Class Estate Asks The Question: A Hearse for a Daily Driver?

In 1961, the Checker Motors Corporation, makers of the ubiquitous Checker cab, decided – for whatever reason – to offer a civilian version to private buyers. Called the Superba, you won’t be surprised to learn it was a complete financial flop. Checker went back to making taxi cabs, no doubt thankful they didn’t try to market a civilian hearse instead.

Flash forward to 2011. At the Essen Motor Show in December of last year, European specialist coachbuilder Binz announced the Xtend E-Class estate, and now the car has entered production. By slotting in an extra 861 mm between the rear doors and rear axle, Binz have extended the estate’s cargo volume to a whopping 2620 litres. That’s better than some vans.

Weight is up to a heavy two tonnes while everything else, including the tires and choice of engines, remains standard E-Class fare. Oh, and the hearse-like styling should come as no surprise. Apart from the 6-door E-Class limousine, Binz is also a builder of several Mercedes-Benz derived hearses including one based on the swoopy CLS.

Imagine the sort of nightmares you’ll give your dachshund when it realizes it’s riding in the back of a hearse or the looks on your kid’s faces when you drop them off at school in something even Herman Munster would be embarrassed to be seen in. In my opinion, Binz should stick to building limousines. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate Previewed Through Scale Model?

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class EstateWhile Mercedes-Benz is trying to keep the prototype models of the next generation E-Class Estate hidden under heavy camouflage, a series of photos depicting a 1:43 die cast model of the car have made their way into various forums on the net. There's no mention of the name of the company that makes the scale model, but the build quality looks pretty high.

And even though there's no way of being 100 percent sure about the accuracy of the design, judging by the numerous spy shots we've seen so far (click here to check out the scoop pics), we'd say that the die-cast model's styling is very darn close to the real-life E-Class Estate that is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

VIDEO: Mika Häkkinen and Michael Schumacher Meet up in New Mercedes Ad

Over the years, Mercedes-Benz has released many TV ads featuring two-time Formula 1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen and other renowned pilots, most ending with a funny twist. The Stuttgart-based automaker's latest commercial to hit the web, called “Sunday Driver”, follows a similar recipe. This time, Mercedes chose a hilarious way to promote its 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system. To shake things up, Michael Schumacher also makes an appearance, alongside a good-looking female driver.

We’ve also included the “Third man” commercial from a few years back, in which the “New Flying Finn” trumps the younger Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. You can watch both videos after the jump.

Piecha Design Pumps up W207 Mercedes E-Class Convertible's Style with New Package

German tuner Piecha Design has unveiled a comprehensive tuning package for the W207 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible, which includes among other bits, a body kit, upgraded exhaust system and custom wheels.

The Rottweil-based specialist went for an aggressive look, combining the factory AMG aero kit with new parts, such as a front spoiler lip, three-part boot lid lip and rear diffuser with integrated 4-pipe Quadro exhaust system. The latter is available for all engines powering the coupe and convertible models, while, upon request, Piecha can modify the standard, 2-pipe exhaust as well.

Lowered side skirts boasting an LED lighting system, offered for all Mercedes-Benz cars, and 19-inch dp2 Phantom alloys surrounded by 235/35 front and 275/30 rear tires, complete the exterior package.

Tech buffs will probably enjoy the new power converter, which cuts down the powertrain’s reaction time, if needed. Using a potentiometer, owners can choose between three settings: standard, urban-driving or sports mode. The updated power converter is not an exclusive E-Class Convertible option, as it’s available for all models with electronic accelerators.

Last but not least, Piecha developed the Vario roof module that makes it possible to open or close the canvas top while driving, at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph), using the standard key.
